2011 Soap Opera America Award Winners
It's that time of year again, one year ago, As The World Turns was the big winner taking home 5 wins at the Soap Opera America Awards, who will come out on top tonight?! Here are the winners for the 2011 Soap Opera America Awards:

Her return brought shocking secrets as well, and fans rejoiced when she earned her just rewards!! But Sean Young played Meggie brilliantly, and made us long for villains like Meggie again.

Who knows what will happen once Sharon returns to Genoa City?

Which is why it's all the more surprising that she has yet to win an Emmy... Maybe she'll be walking away a winner on Sunday!

We rarely see Victor emotional, but over the past year, Braeden brought a brilliant performance to the screen and we saw how Victor really felt. One of the strongest male performances in the past year deserves recognition.

-This year's best Drama Series is without a doubt, One Life To Live, as they've unfearfully tackled a brave bullying storyline and shaken up the lives of Llanview residents. They've captivated viewers with interesting storylines and continue to do so, with the way they are going, the OLTL finale will be something that viewers won't forget!

Daytime Emmy Changes
The nominees for Best Drama Series surprisingly remains at four and the same four shows are nominated again this year.
Noticeable is the expansion of both the Lead Actress and Supporting Actress categories to six nominations as opposed to the regular five (that both Male categories are at still)... I guess it must've been a really good year for the women of daytime!
Furthermore, both Younger Acting categories have been cut to three nominations, I suppose soaps do not have as many younger actors as before??
Next year's Emmys (2012) will most likely not be impacted by the cancellation of AMC and OLTL, as these shows will continue well into the 'sweeps' period of submissions for consideration.

'AMC' & 'OLTL' to end within the next year
It was announced from ABC just two days ago that One Life To Live and All My Children, both long-time soap mainstays on ABC (for over 40 years), will be going off air in January 2012 and September 2011, respectively.
One Life To Live's cancellation doesn't come as a big shock, as it's ratings have declined (as have all soaps), and it has been flip-flopping with already canceled As The World Turns for the past few years, and OLTL has been named the next casualty in Soap deaths.
Unexpected, however, is All My Children's demise along with it. Leaving only CBS's The Young & The Restless & The Bold & The Beautiful, NBC's Days Of Our Lives, and ABC's General Hospital as the only four soaps on air after January 2012.
What will be interesting is how the Daytime Emmys will adjust to these changes, if they will cut the number of nominees or leave them as is?, and how will they do the Best Drama Series nominations??
Interestingly, replacing both timeslots are 'lifestyle' shows, that are most likely cheaper to produce. When As The World Turns and Guiding Light went off-air, both were replaced by game shows, and I just have to ask: WHY?
I highly doubt anyone watches game shows as much as they used to anymore, with the way things are going, there isn't going to be much left in terms of Daytime television!!
BTW, I just wanted to add to the fact that I believe people don't watch gameshows as much anymore, then they should pre-empt game shows!! I'm tired of hearing that Y&R has been pre-empted because of MARCH MADNESS or some other sport... PLEASE put them on different times!!

2011 Daytime Emmy Pre-Nominations!
Alas, I am behind the curve on this, but it just means we are closer to finding the actual nominations for the Emmys!! Here are the ones who made the cut:Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series Pre-Nominees:

Y&R: ....about right, Cooper & Stafford both made my short-list for possible nominees for the awards here.

Quick Thoughts: For ATWT, I think Van Hansis (Luke Snyder) should've definitely gotten pre-nominated (unless he decided not to submit himself for consideration, which is a shame, since he did some great work near the finale).... not surprised to see Lindstrom and Park up for consideration, but I have a feeling they might not get nominated as they didn't have a strong showing in the final weeks. OLTL: I suppose it was a good choice? I don't think anyone else really stood out during nomination period?? Y&R: Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) is the only glaring omission I can mention, he did some great work near the end of 2010.... I can't remember anything that stands out from Bergman & LeBlanc (even though both are CRAZY talented).

I hope that Conn takes home the gold this year! OLTL: Then again, I might be rooting for Williamson because she is very talented and I love her work as Jessica! Y&R: All three ladies did a great job last year, but I think Cast & Hendrickson might edge out Heinle.... On the purpose of having stronger material to work with... but I wouldn't count Heinle out yet because she has managed to make Victoria Newman into her own character in the past half-decade.

Y&R: Davidson is always talented but he didn't make my short-list as Miller did... though I think the actors of Ronan and Chance (and maybe Cane) would've edged out these two for me.

Soap Opera America's Helen Wagner Lifetime Achievement Award: Colleen Zenk Pinter (2010 Honoree)
Perhaps most famously known for her role as the equally villainess and yet kind-hearted Barbara Ryan on As The World Turns, Pinter has become one of the most talented actresses in daytime, and one of the most beloved by fans.
In 1978, Pinter first appeared on As The World Turns, playing Barbara Ryan: a role which she would become most famously known for. In her thirty-two year stint on As The World Turns, she portrayed Barbara as many types of women, but it was her villainous turn in the 2000's that would garner her much critical acclaim. She earned back-to-back Daytime Emmy nominations in 2001 (Supporting Actress) and 2002 (Lead Actress), and a 2005 Soap Opera Digest Award nomination (Favorite Villain).
Throughout Pinter's stint on As The World Turns she became one-half of the famous super-couple with James Stenbeck (Anthony Herrera). Her rise to fame as Barbara began with Barbara becoming a heroine, suffering many tragedies at the hand of her former lover, James Stenbeck. In 1985, her villainous nature started to show as she broke up popular super-couple Tom Hughes & Margo Montgomery, this proved unpopular and she returned to being a heroine.
In the early 2000's Barbara became involved in a villainous plot to get back at her adversaries, which soon after, she reformed herself and became less of a villain. Yet, Pinter was still able to inject some boldness and brashy-ness into Barbara, creating a strong vibrant woman who we've come to know and love.
Pinter has remained an integral part of many of As The World Turns's storylines, being a regular contract player, and becoming a prominent character as the show started to come to a close in September 2010.
Pinter met her first husband on the set of As The World Turns and the two have a daughter and a grandchild together. She became diagnosed with oral cancer in 2007, and is now a proud cancer survivor, as well as a spokesperson for the disease. In 2008, Pinter agreed to have her character Barbara Ryan have an oral cancer storyline as well, which in turn ended up with Ryan being cancer free.
Pinter is a fantastic actress, a part of As The World Turns history, and a person who created one of the most bold and brazen females in soap history. We wish her great luck on her next acting ventures, and hope to see her soon in another fantastic role.
Soap Opera America's Helen Wagner Lifetime Achievement Award (Intro)
Helen Wagner, known as Nancy Hughes on As The World Turns, was a trailblazer. She spoke the very first words on ATWT and would go on to become one of the soap's most well-known characters. She became the matriarch of the show, becoming one of the longest tenured actresses on the soap, and winning a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Emmys in 2004. She set the world record for the longest played character on television with Nancy Hughes. ATWT's history is not complete without her, as she carried a sense of history every time she came onscreen.
We decided to name a lifetime achievement award in her honor after she passed away last May (2010). Reason being was that she has become one of the legends of daytime television, and one figure that daytime television can't ignore in it's long history.
This is an honorary award presented in the honor of As The World Turns star Helen Wagner (Nancy Hughes) who is no longer with us. This award will be presented to honor a Soap Vet who has contributed significantly to the world of soaps by playing an iconic role, or many iconic roles.
