1st Annual Soap Opera America Awards

Welcome to the first annual Soap Opera America Awards!! Where the best of the best in CBS Soaps [and those in Llanview!] of 2009-2010 are honored. Eventually, I hope we will be able to honor all the Soaps in future awards. Until then, we will be honoring these soaps; including giving the honorary Helen Wagner Lifetime Achievement Award to Coleen Zenk Pinter (Barbara Ryan) of As The World Turns fame.

Without further ado, let us commence the awards!!

OUTSTANDING VILLAIN/VILLAINESS

The nominees are:

Paolo Seganti, As The World Turns (Damian Grimaldi)
Roscoe Born, One Life To Live (Mitch Laurence)
Michael Muhney, The Young & The Restless (Adam Newman)
Stephen Nichols, The Young & The Restless (Tucker McCall)
Yvonne Zima, The Young & The Restless (Daisy Callahan)

And The Award Goes To: Michael Muhney, The Young & The Restless
-No doubt, Muhney's dasdardly turn on Y&R as sociopath Adam Newman has brought some new meaning to the word Villan, terrorizing over HALF of Genoa City has brought him some big trouble, though recent scenes have brought up the notion that he's back and here to stay.

OUTSTANDING PLOT/STORYLINE

The nominees are:

Brad Snyder’s Death, As The World Turns
Ann Douglas’ Death, The Bold & The Beautiful
Mitch Laurence’s Return, One Life To Live
The Emily/Patty Switch, The Young & The Restless
Tucker McCall’s Revenge on Katherine, The Young & The Restless

And the award goes to: The Emily & Patty Switch, The Young & The Restless
-All of these storylines gave great material for the actors to work with, but this rather far-fetched (but of course when have we known soaps to not defy reality?) storyline was one of the longest-running ones on Y&R in the last year, was one of the greatest storylines of the past year, and showcased how brilliant Stacy Haiduk's acting skills were, and Haiduk redefined the requirements for portraying two different characters with her brilliant turn as Patty Williams and Emily Peterson.

FAVORITE COUPLE

The nominees for this fan voted award are:

Brad Snyder & Katie Snyder, As The World Turns
Carly Tenney & Jack Snyder, As The World Turns
Luke Snyder & Noah Mayer, As The World Turns
Kyle Lewis & Oliver Fish, One Life To Live
Cane Ashby & Lily Ashby, The Young & The Restless

And the award goes to: Carly Tenney & Jack Snyder, As The World Turns
-Longevtivity proved to be a major factor in this race, with CarJack reciving a lot of votes. Their on-again, off-again relationship on ATWT has captivated viewers for more than a decade, and in recent weeks, it seems they will get back together. Let's hope ATWT puts this supercouple back together before the show ends!

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR/ACTRESS

The nominees are:

Ashley Greiner, As The World Turns (Faith Snyder)
Meredith Hagner, As The World Turns (Liberty Ciccone)
Kelley Missal, One Life To Live (Danielle Rayburn)
Christel Khalil, The Young & The Restless (Lily Ashby)
Emily O’Brien, The Young & The Restless (Jana Fisher)

And the award goes to: Meredith Hagner, As The World Turns
-The original portrayer of Liberty Ciccone was delt a tough hand with one incident after another appearing in Liberty's life. And in the hands of another mediocre actor, the scenes would have failed; but Hagner portrayed Liberty brilliantly, that if she were nominated at the Emmys, no doubt she would have won in the younger actress category.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR

The nominees are:

Van Hansis, As The World Turns (Luke Snyder)
Austin Peck, As The World Turns (Brad Snyder)
Daniel Goddard, The Young & The Restless (Cane Ashby)
Michael Graziadei, The Young & The Restless (Daniel Romalotti)
Greg Rikaart, The Young & The Restless (Kevin Fisher)

And the award goes to: Van Hansis, As The World Turns
-Van Hansis was one of the actors I considered horribly snubbed by the Emmys, even when he was nominated. He delievers so well as Luke Snyder that it is a shock that he has never won! This past year, Luke's emotions have been twisted and confused, and Hansis has shown Luke's confusion and disapointment very well.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS

The nominees are:

Julie Pinson, As The World Turns (Janet Ciccone)
Marie Wilson, As The World Turns (Meg Snyder)
Betty White, The Bold & The Beautiful (Ann Douglas)
Bree Williamson, One Life To Live (Jessica Buchanan)
Stacy Haiduk, The Young & The Restless (Patty Williams/Emily Peterson)

And the award goes to: Stacy Haiduk, The Young & The Restless
-Betty White and Stacy Haiduk were both among the horribly snubbed actresses at the Emmys. This category was the hardest to decide, since all the actresses delivered such powerful performances, but there was no denying that Haiduk's stint portraying two very different personalities was spellbinding and showed just how talented she is. I hope that some other show takes advantage of her talents, Y&R's loss will hopefully be some other show's gain.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR

The nominees are:

Jon Lindstrom, As The World Turns (Craig Montgomery)
Michael Park, As The World Turns (Jack Snyder)
Peter Bergman, The Young & The Restless (Jack Abbott)
Doug Davidson, The Young & The Restless (Paul Williams)
Christian LeBlanc, The Young & The Restless (Michael Baldwin)

And the award goes to: Michael Park, As The World Turns
-The two men from As The World Turns had the best material to work with compared to the ones they've been getting in a while. But Jack's year has been unbelievable, and a usually stable Jack had been so emotionally confused, and showed how great an actor Michael Park is. And the fact that he FINALLY won at the Emmys was just the icing on the cake.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS

The nominees are:

Terri Colombino, As The World Turns (Katie Snyder)
Maura West, As The World Turns (Carly Tenney)
Florencia Lozano, One Life To Live (Téa Delgado)
Tracey Bregman, The Young & The Restless (Lauren Baldwin/Sarah Smythe)
Eileen Davidson, The Young & The Restless (Ashley Abbott)

And the award goes to: Maura West, As The World Turns
-My personal favorites are Tracey, Eileen, and Maura; all fantastic actresses. But I've found that for the longest time that Maura has had the strongest material to work with and over the last few months, has been giving the best performances in many the situations that Carly has gotten in. (Not to demote the performances of the other fabulous actresses) And the fact she recieved her second Emmy award is fantastic as well.

BEST DRAMA SERIES:

We arrive to the final award of the night! And the nominees are:

As The World Turns
One Life To Live
The Young & The Restless

And the award goes to: The Young & The Restless
-All three nominated dramas have had strong years, and have been absolutely great with their storylines. However, even though As The World Turns has had some great moments and we can always count for ATWT to show that family and love trump all, but the fact that they keep adding new faces and focus less and less on the more established actors & actresses has made the show less appealing; One Life To Live had some great and exciting moments this past year as well, but what did them in are their unfinished conclusions for many of them (and kicking off popular couple Oliver Fish & Kyle Lewis didn't help them much as well). The Young & The Restless had a great year, and brought us many exciting storylines and great emotional moments [from Ashley & the others finding out that Faith was Sharon & Nick's daughter to Adam Newman's near escape and his dasdardly plans to Patty's charade of playing Emily to get Jack back]. And it helps that their crop of actors is a great troupe of fantastic performers.

Congratulations to As The World Turns being the top winner with 5 wins & to The Young & The Restless for 4 wins. Be on the lookout for a page on the Helen Wagner Lifetime Achievement Award and details on Colleen Zenk Pinter. Thank you for joining us and see you next year!!
